Black Heart Gang

The hearts of the Blackheart Gang are, as the name suggests, dark. They hardly show emotion and seldom seem to show any regret for their previous actions, such as the creation of their latest project THE TALE OF HOW. It comes as little surprise that The Tale of How has been renamed, in some circles, as The Grim Reaper. This brings me back to something I mentioned earlier, that is, that their hearts are black. Their cold smug bravado, and their black-in-black eyes are known to strike fear into the hearts of film festival organizers and hotel managers alike. It’s their unresponsive natures, the rumours of the missing journalist, the way they stand in the rain, on the cold veranda, staring at the grey sea. People find ways to dismiss these rather anti social habits by saying ” Jeesh, artists! Go figure ‘em out” or you know “they’ve achieved so much!” But have they really achieved so much? The Blackheart Gang is a well oiled machine, a collective of good friends with passion for the arts. Each member have their own sets of skills and talents that form an incredible collaborative dynamic.

Ree Treweek

Ree is a girl with red hair, freckles and braces, she also has a very short temper, a ticking time bomb of sorts. Illustrator and character developer for The BHG. Ree works as a director and illustrator with Jannes at Shy the Sun Productions.

Jannes Hendrikz

Jannes, quietly confident. Only wears black. His gruff attitude is matched only by his stubble. Compositor and Creative Director for The BHG. Jannes works as a director and compositor with Ree.

Markus Wormstorm

Markus is determined and strong, his heavy noble brow is set under a constant frown. Musician and writer for The BHG.

These three Cape Townians,( who are said to be so mindbogglingly hip that they are forced to wear skinny jeans to keep their pelvis’ from exploding), care little for scholars or metaphors. Nor do they care for all these international awards, fame or the critical acclaim that surrounds their work like smog.

(Taken from the ‘About Me’ section from their website, www.theblackheartgang.com
For more from them please look at blog section called ‘Camera, Action, Play Dead!’ for a video created by them titled ‘Tale of How’).

These people are truly amazing, and their work really inspires me, especially their video’s.
Just the way they animate and illustrate it, it’s all done from paper work and the voice over’s are so weird in themselves that it shouldn’t really work. But it does somehow.
