The Walrus and the Carpenter

This is one of my favourite cinematic scenes of Alice: Madness Returns.
The Walrus and the Carpenter, unfortunately you’ll have to watch these two clips as if they were one as I could not find a video of the full cinematic.

We all know the story of the Walrus and the Carpenter, and if you don’t then shame on you!
It’s a brilliant short story featured in Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
The story of how they, both friends, conspire a plan together to lure these oysters to there den with promises of stories and fancy food, but really they are the meal.
As the carpenter prepares the pot for them to boil he returns to find that the fat greedy Walrus has eaten them all and saved none for him.

In this cinematic it’s the same story, different interpretation.
They have told the oysters it’s a show and they are to perform and sing, but instead in front of a full audience of fish, the walrus slaughters them on stage, while the carpenter is the ring bearer as it were, getting the show set up, doing all the hard work, for the Walrus to do essentially nothing but feast.

These are again done in that puppet like manner, a style that I am going to experiment with, they use bold lines and bright colours to make it more effective.

The filming is also spectacular, they follow the gore and slaughter and blur to create a delusional state, where you feel dizzy ad vulgar. Something which would be interesting to play with in such an animation.

You’ll notice that the illustration of the Oysters do not change as they get cut in half but rather get added too, blood and bone for a fuller effect. All in all it’s a very creepy amazing scene of blood, gore and murder.
